I recently had a chat with a fellow A/V installer who found it crazy that we still solder all of our audio connectors and RS-232 D-Subs. Coming from the residential side of install, he tried to sell me on the ease of running everything over Cat5 and using adapters to break it out to suit my needs. Call me old fashioned, but I like a sturdy connection that I can put some weight behind. The last thing I want is another point of failure, via an adapter, on something that isn’t really made for my particular application. So thanks for the input, nameless industry friend o’mine, but I’ll keep doin things the ol school way…that is until everything we use is completely wireless.
Peace Out Old Schoolers
